IMPERFECTIONS

It has been said that each character from a story is a metaphor for every aspect of human existence. In other words, when people represents larger concepts other than themselves it is known as an allegory. In the story "The Birthmark", Man is considered imperfect.  Aylmer is a representation of science and all its dangers. In this case, humankind can never know whether its relation to nature is adversarial or harmonious. He is the representation that humanity is in constant battle with nature. Georgina represents beauty and beautiful women with flaws. This represents nature and acceptance. Some may beg to differ however, we all want to be accepted by the people around us. According to Aminadab, appearance represents the material world. "What is lost cant be found." "It was beautiful and you lost it." Georgina could not see beyond Aylmers exceptions of perfection. She rather follow his heart as oppose to her own. That only ruins her present and her own happiness. In the end, she dies because of her husbands certainty to make her 'beautiful."As humans, we were giving this life along with our imperfections because we born to be real. Dan Pearce once said "Be real, Embrace that you have weakness, because everyone does. Embrace that your body is not perfect because nobody is. Embrace that you have things you cant control because we all have a list of them." Society puts us in the position to feel ashamed.  If one does not fit a certain criteria of expectations, for instance when it comes to looks, social status, occupation, education and income, we are not good enough.
